You may want to create different view types for different purposes. For example, you might want to have an elevation view type that is used for construction documents and a different elevation view type that is used for client presentations.

Start by duplicating an existing view. In this example, we will start by duplicating the South elevation. Right click the name in the Project Browser and select duplicate. On the Properties Palette, click Edit Type. In the Type Properties dialog, click Duplicate and enter a name for the new view type.

The graphics parameters in this dialog are the families that will be used when a view reference is placed for this kind of view. Use the ellipses button to select a family already loaded in the project. In this example, an alternate family is used so it is easier to see how this affects the callout.

In this case, we want any presentation views placed to have the same appearance, so a view template is assigned. You can use an existing template or create a new one. New views dependent on a template essentially "locks " the template settings to the view. To make a change to the view after it is created, you would have to manually remove the template first.

Click ok to create the view type. In the Project Browser, a new node is created for the new view type. The current view did not take on the properties of the view template assigned, because it is not "new". Manually assign the view template in the properties of the view, and change the view name in the Project Browser.

In a plan view, you see the new elevation marker for the presentation elevation. Place additional markers to make other presentation elevations. Use the type selector as you place the elevation marker to change to the presentation elevation type. Other presentation views are added to the Project Browser.

View types can be made for plans, sections, and callouts in addition to the elevation view type shown. Use view types to help organize your Project Browser and control what is visible in views as you create them.
