Sketch rectangular or circular bolt patterns to place bolts on a structural element in 3D or plan views.

To place a bolt, first, navigate to the Steel tab in the Revit ribbon.

Under the Fabrication Elements panel click the Bolts icon and select Bolts from the drop down list.

After selecting the bolt feature, select steel elements to connect.

Here, we'll select a steel plate and the steel beam next to it.

To select multiple elements, hold the CTRL key as you click and select elements.

When you are finished selecting the steel elements, press enter.

Next, select the element face to which the bolt pattern will be perpendicular.

After doing so, navigate to the Modify tab in the Revit ribbon, and click the Rectangle or Circle buttons under the Draw Panel to determine the bolt pattern.

You can now sketch the bolt pattern onto the steel element face.

Click once on the element to begin setting the pattern, and move you cursor to create the shape. Click again to set the final point of the pattern.

To finish sketching click the green checkmark in the Create Bolt Pattern tab under the Modify tab.

The bolts are created perpendicular to the selected face of the element.

It's important to note that Bolts are only visible when the detail level of the view is set to fine.

After you have set your bolt pattern on the element, you can use the properties pallet to customize the bolts and the bolt pattern. Here you have the option to the bolt standards, the number of bolts, and the spacing between the bolts.

Say we want to change the number of bolts on side one of the pattern.

In the properties palette, change the number of bolts to four

Click apply.

Notice the change in the Revit model.
