The Path of Travel tool makes it easy to analyze and calculate distances and travel times from one point in your model to another, but there are situations where you may need additional control over the calculated path .

For example, when calculating a path from a room on the south side of this plan to an area outside the entrance, the shortest path is calculated but it goes through the mechanical spaces adjacent to the entry. Use waypoints to add controls to a path of travel line to adjust the path .

Select the Path of Travel line and on the contextual tab of the ribbon, click Add Waypoint. Click a point on the path of travel line close to where you need the waypoint. Now click and drag the waypoint to a new location and the path of travel line updates .

Waypoints can also be added if you need to calculate a specific path. For example, in doing an analysis on this dining area, the furniture is not fixed, so instead of a calculated route through the tables as shown, you want to calculate a path along the edge of the room. Add and position a few waypoints to adjust the path .

To remove a waypoint, select the path of travel line and click Delete Waypoint on the contextual tab of the ribbon. Then click the waypoint to remove it. When a waypoint is deleted, the path of travel line updates .

Use waypoints on path of travel lines to give you more control over the analysis .
