Video: Specify the Calculation Method for Duct and Pipe

Calculate the pipe or duct pressure drop using calculation add-ins.

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Understand add-ins for calculating duct and pipe pressure drop.
  2. Specify a calculation method for straight duct segments.
Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2014. When using a newer software release, you may notice differences in functionality and user interface.

Revit provides standard methods for calculating duct or pipe pressure drop. Third-party developers can create calculation add-ins to supplement the default methods installed with Revit. If you have these add-ins installed, you can specify the method used when calculating duct or pipe pressure drop for straight segments, fittings, and accessories.

For example, to specify the calculation method for pressure drop for straight segments of duct, click the Calculation node in Mechanical Settings. On the Pressure Drop tab, select a Calculation Method from the list. If third party calculation methods are available, they display in the drop-down list. The details of the calculation method are displayed.

Notice that the pressure drop value for the duct segment has been updated. You can also specify a calculation method for pipe segments. Notice that the fixture units and flow values for the pipe segment have been updated.

You can also specify an alternate calculation method for pipe fixture pressure drop.
