Change the Service for Fabrication Parts in Revit

You can change the service for a fabrication part that uses the same service or different template and specification as the original part.

Use the Change Service tool to change the fabrication service for an entire network or a portion of a network. You can change the service to one that uses a different service template and specification than the originally selected part.

  1. In the drawing area, select a run of pipework, ductwork, or electrical containment.
  2. Click Modify | MEP Fabrication Pipework/Ductwork/Containment tabModify panel (Change Service).

The MEP Fabrication Parts palette displays information about the service and size(s) for the selected pipework/ductwork/containment.

Tip: When the MEP Fabrication Parts palette is active, press TAB to quickly move between the size fields.

As you move the mouse pointer over a part size in the MEP Fabrication Parts palette, the corresponding pipework/ductwork/containment is highlighted in the drawing area.

  3. On the MEP Fabrication Parts palette, select a different Service from the list of loaded services.
Note: Ensure that you have selected the intended service. Revit defaults to the last used service, but if the domains of the selection are not the same, Revit defaults to the first service for the selected domain.
  4. To select a different group of fittings, click Enable Palette and select a Palette from the drop-down. For example, for ductwork, you might want to change the Palette from the Rectangular to Round Bought Out.
  5. On the Sizes tab, specify new sizes as desired.

For template parts, such as manufactured rectangular duct, enter a value for the width and depth. For product listed parts, such as round bought-out pipe or duct, select a value from the drop-down list.

    Note:
    • The list of default sizes is created from the selection of elements. Different profile shape sizes will be displayed separately allowing for more control.
    • If the original size does not exist for the service, the next size up will be shown or only the sizes that exist in the service.
    • Changing the size for round is controlled by the width/diameter for template-based parts (instance parameters). The two values are displayed to support profile shape changes.
    • Product listed parts will display a list of sizes that are supported for the straights in the service.
    • Be aware that not all fittings are available in all sizes of the straights in the service. This can result in failure to find an appropriate fitting size.
  6. On the Inline Parts tab, specify mappings to new fittings, typically valves and dampers, as desired.
Note: Changing the size can impact the type of fitting used. If the Inline Parts tab displays a red exclamation mark, you must select a replacement fitting for one or more of the original parts. See Map Inline Model Elements to Fabrication Parts.
  7. When you have made the desired service/size changes, click Finish to accept the changes, or click Cancel to discard the changes.
