Video: Edit a Circuit Path

Edit circuit paths to create accurate electrical system calculations.

This video demonstrates the following:

  1. Use the Path Mode drop-down to control the circuit path.
  2. Connect circuit devices to the panel.
  3. Change the route and the offset of the circuit path.
  4. Modify the default value for Circuit Path Offset.
  5. Modify the circuit path for non-power devices.
Note: This video was recorded using Revit 2018. When using a newer software release, you may notice differences in functionality and user interface.

Laying out a precise electrical circuit path is important for accurate electrical system calculations. When you modify the circuit path, you alter the value for the Length property, which is used for calculating voltage drop and sizing wire in the model.

To edit the circuit path, select the circuit and click Edit Path. Revit displays the circuit path editor. Use the Path Mode drop-down to control the path for the circuit. Select All Devices when you want Revit to connect all devices on the circuit to the panel. Select Farthest Device when you want Revit to connect only the farthest device to the panel.

To change the route for the path, select the path and drag it to the desired location. Drag an end point control to move the position of an end point.

You can add a control point to further refine the route of the path. Right-click on a point on a horizontal path and click Insert Control Point. To remove a control point, right-click on the control point and click Delete Control Point.

You can change the offset for a portion of the circuit path or the entire path. Select a horizontal path and enter a path offset. If a segment is not selected, then the offset for the entire circuit path changes.

When the offset changes along a circuit path, Revit displays a rise/drop symbol in plan view. You can drag the rise/drop symbol to modify the path as well.

When you are done editing the circuit path, click Finish Editing Path.

Use the Electrical Settings dialog to modify the default value for the Circuit Path Offset. This setting only applies to a circuit path that uses the Farthest Device path mode.

In addition to electrical power circuits, you can also modify the circuit path for non-power devices such as a Data Device.

When you use the circuit path editor to customize the path for an electrical circuit, voltage drop and wire sizing calculations are more accurate.
