About Splitting Elements

Use a Split tool to divide elements into 2 separate parts, remove segments between 2 points, or to create a defined gap between 2 walls.

Note: After using the Split tool, user-specified settings are remembered for subsequent uses of the tool. See, Save Modify Tool Settings.

There are 2 ways to use Split tools:

• Split Element
• Split with Gap

You can split the following elements:

• walls
• lines (Split Element only)
• railings (Split Element only)
• columns
• beams
• toposolids (Split Element only)
• braces
• generic MEP elements such as duct, pipe, cable trays, and conduit

• MEP fabrication parts such as duct, pipe, and cable trays

  Note: The ability to use the Split tool with fabrication parts is available only to students and to Autodesk subscribers.
