View references are useful tools for displaying detail and sheet numbers corresponding to a specific view. These can be placed in any views in your model, with the exception of perspective, schedule, or sheet views.

Consider, for example, a situation where a model's floor plan is too large to fit on a single sheet, necessitating a split across two sheets. This floor plan would be divided into two dependent views: one showcasing the east side and another for the west side. A matchline indicates the point of division. Each section is then placed on its own designated sheet—A101 for the east side and A102 for the west side. View references, located near the matchline, direct readers to the corresponding view.

In order to add a view reference to the views, begin by opening the parent floor plan view that displays both sides of the matchline. Select "View Reference" from the Tag panel under the Annotate tab. You will then need to choose the view type and target view for the reference. In this instance, we select the east side dependent view. Click to the right of the matchline to place the view reference, which will display the sheet number (A101) and detail number (1), guiding people to the east side plan view. Additional view references are added in the same manner. Select a view reference and change the associated view on the contextual tab of the ribbon.

Upon opening the sheet views where the plans are located, you will see the view references that were added in the preceding steps. These references serve as valuable annotations, facilitating easier navigation through your views.
