Creating a walkthrough can be time consuming. In some cases, you can use the SteeringWheels tool to navigate your model in the Revit LT canvas without the need to set up a camera path or export to a movie file.

To use the SteeringWheels tool, you must be in a 3D perspective view. It is a good idea to create a camera view specifically for the in-canvas walkthrough, so you do not change your preset 3D presentation views. In the Project Browser, open a plan view where you can place a camera. On the View tab, click the arrow on the 3D view and select Camera. Place the camera in the plan by clicking a camera position and a target position. This is the starting point for your in-canvas walkthrough.

Set the graphic display options of the view according to your preferences for the walkthrough. Using a realistic display style may affect performance, so consider using a shaded visual style instead.

Use the SteeringWheels to perform the in canvas walkthrough. On the right side of the canvas, click the down arrow on the SteeringWheels control from the navigation bar. Select the Full Navigation Wheel. The navigation wheel will follow the cursor.

As the cursor moves over different sections of the wheel, the portions will highlight. Click and hold when the walk section is highlighted to activate walk mode. A small circle is displayed in canvas in the walk mode. As you move the cursor away from the circle, the view will move. Moving the cursor to the left or right of the circle will turn the view left or right. Moving the cursor above the circle will walk forward, and moving the cursor below the circle will walk backwards . As you walk, control the direction by moving the cursor left or right. The speed of walking is controlled by the distance the cursor is away from the circle.

To look around in a view without moving, highlight the Look section of the wheel, click, and hold. Move the cursor to look in different directions.

Use the up and down control to move the camera to another level and continue the walkthrough. You can also use the arrow keys on the keyboard while walking to move the camera up and down. The Rewind tool allows you to go back to a view that has occurred while using the navigation wheel.

When you are done using the navigation wheel, highlight and click the small "x" in the upper-right portion of the wheel control.

With some practice, you will be able to navigate your projects with the navigation wheel to do walkthroughs of your models in the canvas.
