Video: Create an Embedded Schedule

Use embedded schedules to display information about the components in rooms, spaces, duct systems, piping systems, or electrical circuits categories.

Use embedded schedules to display information about the components in rooms, spaces, duct systems, piping systems, or electrical circuits categories.

In this example, we'll create an embedded schedule that provides information regarding the furniture being moved to an office.

To create an embedded schedule, first click the Schedules drop down in the View tab and select Schedules/Quantities.

From the New Schedule window, select Room from the Category menu and click OK.

The Schedule Properties window will now appear.

For our schedule, we'll want to know the amount of furniture needed to be added to each office room. This schedule will be used to define the primary category being scheduled. In this case, the category being 'rooms'. To do this, we'll select the name and the number fields from the Available Fields menu and click the Add Parameter button to add them to the schedule.

We'll then select the Sorting tab and choose sort by number in the sort by drop down menu. Click the Blank Line box to add spaces between room information in the schedule.

Next, we'll select the Embedded Schedule tab.

This tab will only display when working with Room, Spaces, duct systems, piping systems, or electrical circuit categories.

From the embedded schedule tab, select the Embedded Schedule box and select the Furniture category from the menu.

An embedded schedule is used to schedule a different category from the schedule we just created, while still being related to that category.

After choosing the Furniture category, click the Embedded Schedule Properties button to dictate which fields will appear in the embedded schedule. Select the Family and Type, Count, and Image fields from the menu and add them to the schedule.

In the Sorting/Grouping tab select Family and Type in the Sort By dropdown menu.

Click Ok when you're finished.

Notice how the resulting schedule is hard to read and not well organized.

We can use the Embedded Properties window to customize the schedule to meet our requirements.

Click Edit Embedded Schedule in the Properties palette.

In the embedded schedule window, click Embedded Schedule Properties.

Under the Sorting and Grouping tab of the Embedded Schedule Properties window, deselect the Itemize Every Instance button to limit the appearance of each furniture item to once per room. Select the Grand Totals button to display the total count of furniture for each room.

In the Formatting tab, select Count and click the calculation dropdown and select Calculate Totals.
