File Options Preferences

Sets the global file option settings in VRED.

In the Menu Bar, click Edit > Preferences, then on the left side of the dialog box, select Import/Export > File Options. After making any changes, press Apply and Save to save them.

Options (tab)

This section contains options for default file type base import, scene, and path settings.

Base

  • Verify Geometry - During import, checks the structure of the geometry is suitable for rendering when this option is enabled.

  • Optimize Geometry - Rebuilds geometry optimized for the VRED Scenegraph.

  • Max Parallel Processes - - Verify Geometry - During import, checks the structure of the geometry is suitable for rendering when this option is enabled.

  • Temporary Path - Displays a temporary path used for file conversions. Use the icon to the right to browse to a different location when this option is enabled. If this is empty, a system tmp path will be used.

Changing the import temporary path of a file does not longer require a VRED restart. The change will be applied to the Import dialog the next time it is opened. However, if the Import dialog is open during the change, the path will NOT update immediately.

Keep in mind, when importing an ATF file, if the path is incorrect, the import will fail. However, when importing only non-ATF files, the path will not be validated; therefore, even if the path is invalid, the import will succeed, and no warnings will be written to the terminal.

  • Converter Output Format - Sets the write format for the ATF converter. Choose from:

    • OSB - Default setting.
    • VPB - Select when working with smart references.

  • Image Sharing - Sets when images with the same contents will be shared when this option is enabled. Select one of the following options:

    • Always - Images are always shared.
    • Same File Name - Images are shared if they have the same file name (i.e., base name + extension).
    • Same Absolute Path - Images are only shared if they have the same absolute file path (i.e., path + base name + extension).

Import Dialog

Determines the behavior of the Import dialog.

  • Show Dialog - Opens the Preferences dialog when you try to import a supported file format when this option is enabled. When disabled, the defined preferences are used.

  • Close Dialog on Successful Import - Closes the Import dialog once the import is successful when this option is enabled.

Scene

Determines the behavior of the scene.

  • Reference Behavior - Determines what happens to references upon import when this option is enabled. Choose one of the following:

    • Source Reference - Imports the references as source references.

    • None - Combines all references into the project and removes the file/reference information.

  • Merge Materials - Merges materials when importing a CAD file when this option is enabled.

  • Center to Origin - Places the imported objects in the origin of the scene when this option is enabled.

  • Put onto the Ground - Places objects on the ground when this option is enabled.

Texture Search Paths (tab)

Path

Adds a location for finding textures.
