Schedule a Vault Backup

The data management server uses the Windows Tasks Scheduler to schedule Vault backups based on the schedule configured in Vault.

Perform the following steps to create a scheduled backup.

Start the Backup Configuration Dialog

  1. Launch the Autodesk Data Management Server Console.

  2. Select Tools > Scheduled Backup.

  3. In the Backup Configuration dialog, enter the folder location where you want the backup to be stored.

  4. Enter the backup log file location and name with a txt file extension.

Note: If this field is left blank, a backup log file will not be created.

Set Credentials

  1. Select the Use Vault user account or Use Windows Authentication as the credentials that will be used to perform the backup.

Note: The credentials used must be an account with Vault administrative privileges.
  2. If you have customized the SQL sa credentials, you will need to enter the new credentials in the SQL Credentials tab.

Select the Backup Type

The backup configuration dialog gives you the ability to schedule a full and/or incremental backup.

  1. In either the Full or Incremental backup tab, select the check box to schedule a backup.

  2. Select vaults and libraries to be backed up. To select vaults or libraries, click … and then select the vaults and libraries for backup. You can use Select/Unselect all checkbox to quickly select or unselect all vaults and libraries for backup.

Note: This option is available in Vault Professional and for Full Backup selection only.
  3. Set the Start date and time the backup should run.

  4. Turn on the "Backup databases only" check box to exclude the backup of any files.

Note: This option is available in Vault Professional and for Full Backup selection only.
  5. Turn on the "Backup Content Center Libraries" check box to include Content Center libraries in the backup process (full-backup-only).

  6. Turn on the "Validate file stores" check box to validate all the files recorded in the database against the files in the file store. The validation uses a checksum of the files to check that they are identical to the file when checked in to Vault.

Note: The option to skip file store validation is only available in Autodesk Vault Professional.
  7. Turn on the "Validate the backed up files" check box to verify the archive is good once it is created.

  8. By default a backup will wait until all files that need to be replicated are replicated before starting. Turn on the "Ignore non-replicated files" check box to start the backup without waiting for these files to replicate.

Note: This option is disabled if the Backup databases only check box is selected.
  9. Select the day when the type of backup you are creating should be scheduled.

  10. Once you are finished selecting all of the options, select the OK button to create the backup batch file.

The batch file is saved in the <>\Autodesk\ADMS 20XX\ADMS Console directory. The full backup batch file is named VaultFullBackup.bat and the incremental backup is named VaultIncrementalBackup.bat.

The backup is scheduled in the Windows Task Scheduler. If necessary, this is where you can make changes to the task.
