Markup

Markup consists of annotations that you can superimpose on a design or drawing in the viewer. The viewer supports markup in the Vault Client and the Thin Client.

Use markup to add comments, information, and suggestions for design changes to the drawing file.

To access markup tools in the viewer:

  1. View a file.

Note: To view a file in the Thin Client, view the topic Thin Client - The Viewer.
  2. Select Markup in the viewer toolbar.

The markup icon indicates the number of markups associated with the file. If the file contains existing markup, the markups are listed in the Markup Browsing Panel. Select the markup to view in canvas.

  3. Click Create new to clear the canvas and create a new markup.

  4. Use markup tools to add text or annotations.

Note: Use the Undo and Redo buttons as needed to remove and re-insert annotations.
  5. Click Save to save the markup as data on the Vault or save a local copy as an image. See Save Markups for details.

When the markup tool is selected, you can click on the arrow icons in the action bar or toolbar to show (>) or hide (<) panels and gain more screen space.

Markup Browsing Panel

The Markup Browsing Panel displays all the markups saved as data for that file, along with details such as who created the markup and the creation date. In the Markup Browser Panel you can:

Edit Markup

Select the markup from the Markup Browsing Panel to edit the markup.

Note: All existing markups for the historic CAD file version can be viewed in the Viewer, however, only the latest CAD file version can be modified for the markup content. You cannot add, delete, or modify markup for historical file versions.

Save Markups

Markup isn't recorded in the viewer. To keep a reference copy of your markup, you can save the markup as an image on your local machine or save it as data on the Vault. All unsaved markups are discarded after confirmation.

Note: Markup saved as data is supported only for design files and not for pdf or other file formats. In Thin Client, you can only save a snapshot of the markup, downloaded as a .png file.

Markup in eco

You can view markup within eco using Autodesk Viewer, make changes to the markup, and save it as data in the Vault. You can add comments to each save performed on the markup. See View Markup Files Attached to a Change Order for more information.

Has Markup Properties

The markup system properties help you identify files or versions with associated markup. You can use these properties to search and customize views with a "true" value.
