Change the Position of an Item in a BOM

Each item has a position number in the Bill of Materials. This position number is a property that can be modified by the user.

Rules for Position Numbers

• The BOM can only be edited when it is in multi-level view.

• Position numbers are alphanumeric.

• If the BOM row was manually or automatically created, the position can be manually modified.

• The position value is sticky for manually created rows.

• If the BOM row was imported from CAD, the position may be overwritten if the values change on the CAD side.

  Important: It is not transparent if the row was manually created or imported from CAD. Modify positions with caution.

• Duplicate position numbers are highlighted in yellow, similar to Inventor.

Modify an item position number in a BOM

1. In the item master, double-click an item.
2. In the item record, click Edit and select the Bill of Materials tab.
3. Select a row in the BOM.
4. Click the position for the row.
5. Enter an alphanumeric string for the new position.
6. Press Enter.
7. Save the BOM to record your changes.
