Automated CAD Formats for Document Control

Automatically publish and manage DXF and STEP files from CAD files within the design release process.

To accelerate design documentation, we have added support for DXF and STEP format similar to PDF.

Configurable DXF and STEP Settings

Vault 2024 automatically renders DXF and STEP formats from CAD design files using the same settings as the authoring CAD systems. In addition, it supports the 2D and 3D design files from AutoCAD and Inventor drawing files.

For more information, see Configure DXF Publishing Options and Configure STEP Publishing Options.

Create DXF and STEP upon State Change

Administrators can now configure settings to automatically publish DXF and STEP files for document control at any lifecycle state. During this transition, Vault's Job Processor automatically updates the drawing references and properties to ensure an accurate DXF and STEP representation.

For more information, see Publish Files.

Create DXF and STEP manually

You can manually create a DXF or STEP of a CAD file using the Create DXF and Create STEP commands available in the toolbar and the context menu. Use these commands to create a DXF or STEP without going through lifecycle state change for a CAD file. Enable the command in the Vault Settings dialog.

For more information, see Create File.

Automatic File Attachment

DXF and STEP files created for document control are automatically attached to their accompanying design file.

Publish and Store Files

PDF, DXF, and STEP files published for document control can be stored in the vault or outside the vault on a local drive. In addition, administrators may designate a local folder for document control similar to the vault folder structure.

For more information, see DXF Publish Location and STEP Publish Location.
