QNEW starts a new drawing from the default drawing template file specified by the Default Template File Name for QNEW setting. If the template file name is set to
None or is not specified, the command displays the Select Template File dialog box (a standard file selection dialog box).
Note: If you click Start Drawing on the Start tab or click the + on a drawing tab, the new drawing is based on the most recently used drawing template file, or else an internal drawing template is used.
The behavior of the QNEW command is determined by the STARTUP and FILEDIA system variables.

Open from an Autodesk Docs project - Location from which you can choose a drawing template file and the default template used for QNEW is defined by the Drawing Template File Location and Default Template File Name for QNEW settings under Project Settings or My Settings in the Options dialog box. Once started, the support files for the new drawing are obtained from the paths defined under Project Settings, then My Settings and Classic AutoCAD Settings.
Not open from an Autodesk Docs project, project has not been set up for Connected support files, or no drawing is open - Location from which you can choose a drawing template file and the default template used for QNEW is defined by the Drawing Template File Location and Default Template File Name for QNEW settings of the current AutoCAD user profile in the Options dialog box. Once started, the support files for the new drawing are obtained from the current AutoCAD user profile.
