Improvements have been added to the navigation and selection workflows in the Timeline.

Timebar Location

The timebar can be displayed at the bottom or top of the Timeline canvas. By default, the timebar is displayed at the top. To move the timebar to the bottom, disable Timebar on Top from the Timeline Options drop-down menu.

This change was made for two main reasons:

In addition, the timebar has been made taller to offer a larger picking zone.

Timeline Segment Selection

Use the Prioritise Picking Mode available in the User Timeline Preferences to select what is grabbed or selected when you click on a part of the timeline positioner that covers a timeline segment.

Select: To:
Prioritise Segment Selection Select the timeline segment or perform an editorial operation such as Trim.
Prioritise Positioner Focus Grab the timeline positioner or its focus bar.

Prioritise Segment Selection

To move the timeline positioner in time when Prioritise Segment Selection is selected:

  1. Drag in the timebar.
  2. Grab the positioner in an area where it does not overlap with a timeline segment.
  3. Hold down the Alt key and grab the positioner.

To move the Positioner's focus:

  1. Use the Next Version/Track (Set Focus) and Previous Version/Track (Set Focus) keyboard shortcuts, respectively assigned to:

    • Flame profile: Page Up and Page Down.
    • Smoke Classic profile: Up arrow and Down arrow.
  2. Hold down the Alt key and grab the focus bar.

Gesturally Opening a Sequence

A sequence can be gesturally opened by dragging it over the row of tabs at the top of the Timeline canvas, even after the clip has been moved over the Timeline tracks.
