The Upstream Network Trace and Downstream Network Trace tools allow you to trace from any node or pipe in the network to the upstream / downstream extents of the network. The trace assumes that the network connectivity (pipe direction) is correct. The tool simply traces all possible upstream / downstream paths from the selected starting point. If the trace stops before reaching the extent of the network, then:
- The next
pipe may be reversed. You can use the Link Reversing Tool (
) of the
Selection toolbar to correct the direction. See
Reversing Selected
Pipes.
- The pipe where the trace stops may not be connected.
To carry out a trace:
- Click on the
(for upstream trace) on the
More GeoPlan Tools Toolbar or the
(for downstream trace) button on the
GeoPlan Tools Toolbar, or select Tracing tools
Downstream trace mode or Tracing toolsUpstream trace mode from the GeoPlan menu.
- Click on any node or pipe. If there is more than possible path from a node, you will be asked choose which link you want to trace the extends of.
Alternatively, select a link on the GeoPlan, right-click to display the context menu, and then select the Trace upstream or Trace downstream option from the selected object's menu choices.
Tip: When using a trace tool, you can carry out a trace in the opposite direction by clicking the button and then holding down the ctrl key while clicking on a node or
pipe. For example, the combination of the upstream trace tool and the CTRL key will result in a downstream trace being performed.
