Print Layouts provide a flexible method of customising printed output.
The layout is edited in the Print Layout View which is used to position frames of different content type and set frame properties. The frame settings and positions can then be saved as a template in the tree view. Print layouts may consist of multiple pages.
The currently supported frame types are:
- GeoPlan - used to display GeoPlan window contents
- Long section - used to display Long Section window contents
- Text - used to display text. The Text frame may be associated with a GeoPlan frame or Long Section frame allowing the use of variables. For example, #{networkname} can be used to display the name of the network currently displayed in the GeoPlan frame.
- Image - used to display an image file
- Key - used to display thematic key for an associated GeoPlan frame
- Flags - used to display data flag key for the database
- Graph - used to display Graph window contents
- Grid - used to display Grid window contents
- Scale - used to display a scale bar for an associated GeoPlan frame
- Locator - used to display a locator map for an associated GeoPlan frame
- North - used to display a north arrow
Currently open GeoPlan, Long Section, Graph and Grid Windows are listed as data views in the Print Layout View. These data views can be selected to provide the content to be displayed in the appropriate frame types.
Creating a print layout
Print layouts are created in the Print Layout View.
To open the view
- Select the File
Print layout option when the current window is a GeoPlan.
- If an existing print layout is displayed in the
Print Layout View, click
(New template) on the print layout view toolbar to load a blank template into the Page pane.
To create a print layout:
- Drag a frame or data view from the left-hand pane to the page pane. A new frame will be drawn on the page.
- Click the frame to highlight it in blue. The frame can be repositioned by dragging with the mouse. The frame can be resized by dragging the handles. Hold Ctrl to select multiple frames.
- Double-click the selected frame to show its properties. Alternatively click the properties button
on the toolbar.
Some frames may require an associated frame in order to be displayed. For example, the key frame requires a GeoPlan frame to be selected as an associated frame. This ensures that the key being displayed is the correct one for the GeoPlan being displayed. The association can be set on the association tab of the Print Layout Properties Dialog.
Saving a print layout template
To save an existing print layout template, click
(Save) on the print layout view toolbar.
To save as a new print layout template
- Click
on the print layout view toolbar. The
Common Tree Selection Dialog is displayed.
- Select a group and type in a name for the print layout template.
- Click Save.
The print layout template will be saved to the selected group.
Note that the positions and settings of frames is saved, but not the data views being shown in the frames.
Loading a print layout template
The following methods can be used to load an existing print layout template:
- Drag the print layout from the tree view into the main InfoAsset Manager window
- Right-click the print layout in the tree view and select Open from the context menu
- Open the
Print Layout View and click
(Load) on the print layout view toolbar. The
Load Print Layout Dialog will be displayed. Select the layout to be loaded and click OK.
The previously saved positions and settings of frames is loaded. The currently open windows provide the data views that can be used to populate the frames.
Batch printing from spatial bookmarks
Batch printing can be carried out if Spatial Bookmarks are available for the network in the GeoPlan frame to be printed.
To batch print from spatial bookmarks
- Click
(Batch print) on the print layout view toolbar. The
Select Spatial Bookmarks Dialog will be displayed.
- Select the bookmarks to print from and click OK.
A print is performed for each selected bookmarked view. The behaviour depends on the GeoPlan frame scale setting defined in the Print Layout Properties:
- Fit from GeoPlan - view is fitted to each spatial bookmark in turn
- Use Scale - view is centred on centre point of bookmark and drawn to specified scale
- Fit Geospatial Bookmark - view is fitted to bookmark specified in Print Layout Properties. The view will not jump to other selected bookmarks.
- Fit network - view is fitted to network. The view will not jump to other selected bookmarks.
