Electromechanical - Linking to Inventor and AutoCAD Electrical Projects

Create, link to, or unlink from an electromechanical link file

An Electromechanical project allows you to create a link between multiple AutoCAD Electrical projects and an Inventor project. When you create a link between an AutoCAD Electrical and an Inventor project, the project files become associative: Design data changes made in one product are updated in the other using the Sync button.

The process to link a project file from one product to the other involves two steps:

1. In either AutoCAD Electrical or Inventor, create the link file (.emx) and point to the active project for that product.
2. In the other product, complete the link by browsing to the previously created link file and pointing to the active project in that product.

Create the link starting in Inventor

Step 1 - Specify link name and location

1. On the ribbon: Electromechanical tab Setup panel Electromechanical Link Setup .

2. In the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box click Create Electromechanical file .

3. In the Electromechanical Create Electromechanical file dialog box:

   • Enter a filename for the .emx link file.
   • Browse to the location where the .emx will be shared between AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor. The Project file to be created field is populated with the location and file name of the electromechanical project file.
   • Click Create.

4. Specify whether to give preference to AutoCAD Electrical or Inventor if there is a conflict when syncing.

5. Click Close in the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box.

Step 2- Complete the linking in AutoCAD Electrical

1. On the ribbon: Electromechanical tab Setup panel Electromechanical Link Setup .
2. In the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box click Link.
3. Browse to the existing link file created in Inventor.

Link to an electromechanical link file that was created in AutoCAD Electrical

1. On the ribbon: Electromechanical tab Setup panel Electromechanical Link Setup .

2. In the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box click Link electromechanical project .

   The AutoCAD Electrical Project field is populated with the name of the AutoCAD Electrical project.

To Unlink a Project between AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor

1. On the ribbon: Electromechanical tab Setup panel Electromechanical Link Setup .
2. In the Electromechanical Link Setup dialog box click Unlink electromechanical project. .
