Edit welding symbols on models

You can add and edit welding symbols in a weldment assembly. Welding symbols can be created for a single weld bead feature or associated to multiple features. They can be added while creating the weld bead feature or using the Welding Symbol command. Weld bead features must be present in the model to use the Weld Symbol command. Welding symbols are attached to the edges of weld bead features.

You can edit the position, change the values, and add vertices to the leader of welding symbols. Use grips to modify the position and the context menu to edit the values or add a vertex.

Add a model welding symbol

You can create a welding symbol in the weldment assembly model.

1. In a weldment assembly, double-click the Welds group in the browser to activate it.
2. On the ribbon, click Weld tab Weld panel Symbol .
3. Select the weld features to attach the symbol to.
4. To associate the information to a fillet weld feature, select the feature from the Fillet Weld Linking list.
5. Enter values in the Welding Symbol dialog box to define the content and appearance of the symbol. The welding symbol is previewed in the graphics window.
6. Click Apply to create the weld symbol. Continue to create symbols, if desired, or click Cancel to close the dialog box.

Move a model welding symbol

You can move a welding symbol by lengthening or shortening the leader segment of a symbol leader line, or by moving the attachment point or vertex. During the move, the valid edges in the associated weld bead feature are highlighted.

1. On the Quick Access toolbar, click the arrow next to the Select command, and then select Feature Priority from the list.

2. In the graphics window, move the cursor over the welding symbol or leader to view the grip points.

3. To move the horizontal reference segment to a new location, click and drag the grip point closest to it.

4. To change the attachment point, click and drag the base grip to reposition the leader.

   • For a cosmetic weld, drag to any arrow side edge in the selection set of the feature.
   • For a fillet weld, drag to any arrow side edge generated by the fillet weld bead.

5. Release the mouse button to place the welding symbol at the new location.

Edit the values or components of a model welding symbol

You can change any value or component that was assigned when a model symbol was created.

1. In the browser, expand the Weld group to display the weld features.

2. Right-click the welding symbol and select Edit Welding Symbol. In the Welding Symbol dialog box, change any value of the assembly welding symbol and leader.

   • To add or edit notes, use the Notes box.
   • To change the orientation for welding symbol components, click the orientation commands.
   • To include a flag or an all-around symbol, select the appropriate check box. To exclude them, clear the appropriate check box.

3. Click the Arrow Side and Other Side tabs as needed to edit values.

   Note: Values for 3D assembly welds are parametric. Edits to these values change the size and shape of the actual weld bead for solid fillet welds. They do not affect the appearance of the cosmetic weld, only the text included in the reference segment.

4. Click OK to accept your changes.

The changes are displayed in the graphics window.

Add a vertex to a weld symbol leader

You can add vertices to a weld symbol leader line.

1. Select the weld symbol in the browser or the graphics window.
2. Right-click and select Add Vertex.
3. Select an area on the leader line to position the vertex.
4. Click and drag the vertex to reposition it.

Delete a vertex from a weld symbol leader

You can delete vertices from a weld symbol leader line. The only vertices that are available for delete are vertices that are added by the user.

1. Select the weld symbol in the browser or the graphics window.
2. Right-click and select Delete Vertex. If a weld symbol does not have user-defined vertices, Delete Vertex is not available in the context menu.
3. Select the desired vertex to delete.
