For a quick file migration, select an entire project for migration. However, you can use a slower method that ultimately increases performance of Autodesk Inventor. The slower method loads each part and subassembly into memory before freeing up the memory for the item. The software can open files without migrating them which reduces the time to open an assembly model.
If Vault is installed, you can migrate files from Vault. When you run the task, the files you select are checked out, migrated to the current release, and checked back in with a comment about migration.
Back up all files used in your designs: part (.ipt), assembly (.iam), presentation (.ipn), drawing (.idw, .dwg), and iFeatures (.ide).
To access files stored on a server, you can map the network drive locally or user UNC path directly.
Verify that your files resolve and open correctly in the existing version of Inventor. Before you proceed, repair resolution and general problems.
If you defined one or more custom projects instead of using the Default project, complete the following steps:
Close all versions of Inventor.
In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, click Migrate Files .
In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, right-click, and select Create Task Migrate Files.
In the Migrate Files dialog box, in Project, specify the active project.
If a vault project is active, then files are migrated from the vault. If a non vault project is active, then files are migrated from the local hard drive.
Click Add Files, Add Folder, or Add Project.
Click Options, and change or accept the default settings.
To enhance the performance of the application, turn on Total Rebuild. (Recommended when migrating from a release before R5.3.)
In the Task Properties box, enter a task name and a time-out threshold.
Specify a schedule, or select the Immediately option.
In the Migrate Files dialog box, click OK.
In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, click Migrate Files.
In the Inventor Task Scheduler window, right-click, and select Create Task Migrate Files.
In the Migrate Files dialog box, in Project, specify the active project.
If a vault project is active, then files are migrated from the vault. If a non vault project is active, then files are migrated from the local hard drive.
To migrate two or more part (.ipt) files, click Add Folder.
To include subfolders, click to place a check mark in the Recursive column. In the File Name column, click the down arrow to specify the file type within the folder to migrate.
Repeat the previous steps for the following:
Select the files in your migration list, and click Options.
In the Task Properties box, enter a task name and a time-out threshold.
Specify a schedule, or select the Immediately option.
Click OK.
Migrating just the main assembly, the software loads every part and subassembly separately into memory, including recurring parts and patterned assemblies. This technique can result in out of memory and stability issues with large assemblies. Large assemblies with component patterns can produce major issues.
