To Define Numeric Parameters in Edit Boxes

You can enter numeric parameter names or values in edit boxes when you edit dimensions, create offset work planes, or edit offset constraints.

Use the edit boxes to define or edit numeric parameter names or values.

For example, suppose you want to dimension a line in your sketch geometry. In the Edit Dimension dialog for the line, enter Length=20mm, and click the green check box to accept the entry. If you open the Parameters dialog to view the defined model parameters, the parameter Length has a value of 20 mm.

1. Click in the edit field.

2. Type any valid combination of numbers, parameters, operators, or built-in functions. Enter any of the following:

   • A new numeric parameter name.
   • A specific numeric value.
   • The numeric parameter name for a previously entered value. If the value is displayed in the graphics window, you can click it to enter its name automatically.
   • The name of a numeric parameter defined in the Parameters dialog or in a linked spreadsheet.
   • An equation. The equation can contain numeric values and numeric parameters.

3. Click the arrow next to the edit box to select any of the following:

   • Recently used numeric parameters or values.
   • The Measure command, which measures a linear distance.
   • Show Dimensions. Click any displayed dimension to enter its parameter name.
   • List Parameters, which displays a list of user-defined numeric parameters.
   • Format options (Inferred, Decimal, Fractional, or Architectural). These options are only available if the display units are feet or inches.

4. Press Enter or click OK to accept the expression.

   In an edit box, a correctly entered expression is shown in black. Invalid or unrecognized syntax is shown in red.
