Create Derived Substitutes

This command provides the means to:

• Create a substitute part for every subassembly within the active assembly.
• Create a named Model State representation containing that part within each subassembly.
• Activate the newly created Model State representation within each subassembly.

This command provides an efficient method to work within large assemblies when combined with the Link Model States commands.

1. Working within an assembly, on the ribbon click Assemble tab Productivity panel Create Derived Substitutes .

2. A dialog box displays a list of the first-level subassemblies of the active assembly with a proposed name and location for the resulting substitute part files.

3. Optionally, change the default naming scheme for the substitute part files with an alternative suffix, or select the Prefix option and add a prefix string.

4. Click Apply to change the naming scheme, or click Revert to return to the previous naming scheme.

   Note: You can manually edit the name of any of the proposed substitute part files. Slowly double-click the file name you wish to change, and then enter the new name.

5. Optionally, if you plan to apply all of these substitutions at one time using Link Model States, make sure all of the Model State representations have the same name.

6. To remove a row. select the row and press the Delete key. This prevents the selected subassembly from being processed when the command creates substitute parts and named Model State representations.

7. Click OK to create the substitute parts and named Model State representations, activate the newly created Model State representations in each subassembly, and close the Create Substitutes dialog box.

The active Model State representation in each subassembly is used when the substitute part is created for that subassembly.
