Create walls using the Place by Segment and Place by Room methods.
This video demonstrates the following:
When working on a design, you may have a need to add finish layers to a wall to represent the design. For example, in the design of this conference room you want to examine the design if it had an accent wall.
Rather than creating a new wall type with an alternate finish, consider placing a thin parallel wall with just the finish layer. The Place by Room or Place by Segment is used to quickly place a wall like this.
In this example we would like to experiment with placing a brick accent wall on the far end of the conference room. On the Architecture tab, select wall. Then use the type selector to choose the wall type for the accent wall, in this case we will select the brick wall type already created in the model.
On the contextual tab of the ribbon select place by segment and select the wall at the far end of the conference room. A parallel wall is placed along the selected wall segment.
The Place by Room tool works in a similar way. When you select in a space enclosed by room bounding walls on all sides, the walls are placed on all wall segments making up the room. You can see when this is complete, the windows and door openings in the room were covered by the parallel walls. Undo the previous action and try again, but this time on the contextual tab, also select Auto Join and Lock. When this option is selected, the place walls are joined to the adjacent walls and the openings are cut. If the adjacent wall is later moved, the joined parallel wall also moves.
