Structural Plate Instance Properties

Modify plate instance properties to change structural thickness, coatings, and more.

To change instance properties, select the element and change its properties on the Properties palette.

Name Description
Materials and Finishes
Structural Material

Specifies a material for the element which may impact structural analysis. It can also control the hidden view display of structural elements. Concrete or Precast will display as hidden. Steel or Wood will be visible when another element is in front of it. Unassigned will not display if hidden by another element. See Change the Physical Properties of a Material.

Structural
Thickness Specifies the thickness of the steel connection plate
Coating Specifies the material coating of the steel plate from a list of common steel coatings.
Length The length of the plate. This is a read-only value.
Width The width of the plate. This is a read-only value.
Paint Area

This parameter outputs the total outer surface of the element, used to calculate the paint quantity estimates.

The formula used is Perimeter multiplied by Cut Length.
  • For hollow profiles, the value will only consider the outer area of the section.
  • Inner openings or copes/skewed cuts at the element ends are not subtracted from the displayed paint area, as the formula uses only the Cut Length for generating the painted area of the element.
Weight

Specifies the weight of the steel plate.

The formula used for the weight parameter is the volume of the plate multiplied by the assigned material density.

Only the volume determined by the outer contour is used to determine the element weight. Any inner cuts from holes, bolts or steel modifiers are ignored.

Justification
The position of the plate relative to the definition work plane. The justification can have any value between 0 and 1:
  • 1.00 - Above
  • 0.50 - Middle
  • 0.00 - Below
Identity Data
Image

Associates an image with the selected element instance. Click the value field and then the browse button to open the Manage Images dialog. See Manage Images Dialog.

Comments User comments for the element.
Mark

A label created for the element. Possible use: shop mark. This value must be unique for each element in a project. Revit warns you if the number is already used but allows you to continue using it. You can see the warning using the Review Warnings tool. See Review Warning Messages.

Phasing
Phase Created Indicates in which phase the plate component was created. See Project Phasing.
Phase Demolished Indicates in which phase the plate component was demolished. See Project Phasing.
