VRED 2021.1

What's New in 2021.1 and General Improvements

Graphics Requirements

• For GPU Raytracing (VRED 2021 and above): We recommend the use of the NVIDIA® driver version 442.50 (or higher). Larger scenes require 8GB or more GPU memory.

  Note:

  The driver is available under Advanced search on the nvidia web site here.

• For OpenGL: Supported NVIDIA® or AMD graphics card with OpenGL 4.3 support and a certified driver.

Minimum Requirements

• Processor: 2 GHz 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor
• Graphics Card: DirectX 11 compliant
• RAM: 8 GB
• Disk Space: 7 GB

Recommended Requirements

• Processor: Intel® Xeon™/Core® or AMD® Ryzen™/Ryzen™ Threadripper™
• Graphics Card: For optimal performance, a card with at least 4 GB of VRAM and 106 GB/s bandwidth is recommended
• RAM: More than 16 GB is recommended

Operating Systems

• Microsoft® Windows® 10 (64-bit)
• Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional (64-bit)

For the VRED Render Node:

• Linux Version: Linux with GNU C Library stable release version 2.5 with installed X-Server
• Redhat 6.x: Using version 2.12 of the GNU C Library or above
• Redhat 7.x: Using the stable release version 2.17 of the GNU C Library

Varjo XR-1

This feature added functionality to Varjo when working in MR (mixed reality).

UV Editor Improvements

This feature now houses projection functions, and uses Unfold3D features for various options, replacing the old Unfold algorithm with Unfold3D to produce better results.

VRED Stream App

This feature has a redesigned web interface, more options, and the ability to switch between JPEG and H264 codec, if you have it installed.

Light Editor Improvements

We reworked our Light Editor. It is now decoupled and has a full object-based Python API. More info can be found in the Python v2 documentation. Additionally, the Light Editor has an improved search field with a filter for the different light types. Also, editing values on multiple selections is now possible. So you can, for example, select multiple lights and edit the color or intensity for all selected lights in one go. With Ghost lights, you can now zoom and pan for better adjusting lens flare effects that are very close together. These improvements will make light set up more efficient.

JT Legacy Importer

This feature has been deprecated and removed from the preferences.

Camera Normal and Albedo Buffer

This feature improves denoiser quality, as Camera Normal and Albedo buffer support were added for GPU Raytracing to better preserve texture and normal details.

VRED Go

Now VRED Go creates an additional data container when the file size exceeds the 4GB limitation.
