NEW (Command)

Starts a new drawing.

The behavior of the NEW command is determined by the STARTUP system variable.

• 1: NEW displays the Create New Drawing dialog box.
• 0: NEW displays the Select Template dialog box (a standard file selection dialog box).

If the FILEDIA system variable is set to 0 instead of 1, a Command prompt is displayed. If you set FILEDIA to 0, this prompt is displayed regardless of the Startup setting.

Default Drawing Templates Location

The default drawing templates location used by the NEW command is determined by the context of the current drawing, specifically whether the drawing is opened from an Autodesk project in Forma Data Management.

Drawing opened from an Autodesk project

The location from which you can select a drawing template file is defined by the Drawing Template File Location setting in Project Settings or My Settings in the Options dialog box. When a new drawing is created, the default drawing templates location is resolved in the following order:

• Project Settings
• My Settings
• Classic AutoCAD Settings

Drawing not opened from an Autodesk project, project not configured for Connected support files, or no drawing open

The location from which you can select a drawing template file is defined by the Drawing Template File Location setting in the current AutoCAD user profile in the Options dialog box.
