Import and export editorial content

You can import and export editorial files to help set up, edit, and refine a sequence of shots in the Sequencer editor.

Import editorial content

To import editorial content:

  • From the Sequencer editor menu bar, do one of the following:
    • To import a file without setting additional options, select File > Import Editorial. In the Import browser, select the editorial file to load.
    • To import a file and set additional options, select File > Import Editorial > .
Note: Note: When you import an editorial file, if Maya cannot locate associated movie or sound files using the paths specified in the editorial file, it searches for them in the Movie and Sound project locations. These locations are defined in the Project Window.

You can edit the Movie and Sound project locations to point to a different directory. This is useful, for example, when importing editorial files created on a different operating system or file system.

When importing an OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) file, camera data stored in the clip metadata is used to determine how cameras are assigned to shots.

  • If the OTIO data references a camera that exists in the scene, that camera is assigned to the imported shot.
  • If the camera does not exist in the scene, a new camera is created using the name stored in the OTIO data.
  • If no camera data is present, a new camera is created using the shot node name.

The following camera attributes are preserved when importing from OTIO:

  • Display gate mask
  • Display film gate
  • Display resolution
  • Display gate mask opacity and RGB
  • Film fit
  • Film fit offset
  • Overscan
  • Orthographic
  • Orthographic width
Note: When importing OTIO, existing cameras are reused when available. This differs from XML import, which creates new cameras.

When importing an OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) file, track information stored in the file is used to reconstruct Sequencer tracks.

The following track properties are preserved:

  • Track title
  • Track mute state
  • Track lock state
  • Track solo state

Track names are restored based on the names stored in the OTIO data.

When importing OTIO, new tracks are created above existing tracks to keep imported data separate from the current sequence.

Note: Importing OTIO does not modify existing tracks. Imported tracks are added as new tracks in the sequence.

When importing OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) files, supported data matches the data imported using XML.

This includes sequence, track, shot, audio, and file reference data supported by XML import.

When importing OpenTimelineIO (OTIO) files, the following shot-level data is supported:

  • Favorite
  • Labels
  • Shot linking to audio
  • Shot name attribute
  • Shot mute
  • Shot lock
  • Shot custom color
  • Shot color
  • Maya start frame
  • Maya end frame
  • Thumbnails (excluding the Show all/Hide all thumbnails property)
  • Shot height and width resolution

Export editorial content

    • To export without setting additional options, select File > Export Editorial.
    • To export and set additional options, select File > Export Editorial > .
When exporting to OTIO, track information is included in the exported data. This includes track titles and track state (mute, lock, and solo).

When exporting to OpenTimelineIO (OTIO), supported data matches the data exported using XML.
