Define a Custom Connection

Add connection elements to your steel model to create a custom connection.

1. Select one or more standard or a generic connections from which the custom connection is created.
   Note: The number of host elements is limited. Custom connections cannot be defined with more than a number of 3 connected elements.
2. Click Modify | Structural Connections tab Connection panel (Customize).
3. In the Create Custom Connection dialog, name the new connection.
4. In the Edit Custom Connection Type panel, click:
   • (Add) to select sub elements that will comprise the custom connection type.
   • (Remove) to exclude selected sub elements from the custom connection type.
5. In the Edit Custom Connection Type panel, click (Finish) to complete the custom connection, or (Cancel) to close the panel without saving changes.

The custom connection is defined and the selected connection is the first instance of the defined custom connection type.

You can add stiffeners to a custom steel connection in edit mode, save them in connection templates, and customize them from the ribbon. Stiffeners adapt to input element sizes and update through regen, copy, undo, and redo.
