Generate Location Areas with AI

AI area detection finds rooms and zones on a sheet and suggests areas for you, so you don't have to draw each one by hand. You review, edit, and assign the suggested areas to your location breakdown structure (LBS). Once you assign an area to a location, it becomes a project area you can use in location-based workflows.

You stay in control the whole time: nothing becomes a project area until you assign it.

Prerequisites

Generate Areas with AI

Note: The feature works best on clear architectural sheets. Noisy, dense or complex plans may need more review and editing.
  1. In Project Admin, click Locations in the left navigation to open the Locations tool.

  2. Click on a linked sheet to open its details in the panel on the right. Click Add or Edit to open the sheet.

  3. Click Generate areas with AI to enter AI area mode.

  4. In the upper right corner of the page, select Generate areas with AI.

Detection runs in the background, so you can keep working while it processes. Larger sheets take longer.

  5. Once areas are generated, you can select a polygon to edit or assign them to a location, or select a location to assign a polygon.

Tip: Click Merge to merge two adjacent areas into one.

Note the following detection-specific considerations:

Review and Edit Areas

Refine the suggested areas before you assign them. Select an area to open the edit, assign and delete actions. To select more than one area, hold Cmd, Ctrl or Shift as you click.

You can:

Merge Adjacent Areas

  1. Select an area, then select Merge.

  2. When the banner appears, select an adjacent area – one that shares a border with the first.

  3. The two areas combine into one, which stays selected.

Note: You can only merge areas that share a border. If you select an area that isn't adjacent, the merge won't complete.
Tip: To merge several areas at once, select them all first. If they're all adjacent, select Merge.

Assign an Area to Location

Assigning an area links it to a location in your LBS and turns it into a project area.

  1. Select a single area.

  2. Assign it to an LBS node or select an LBS node and assign an area to it. Both directions work.

Note the following:

Regenerate Areas

If the results aren't complete, you can run detection again.

  1. Select Regenerate areas.
  2. Confirm when prompted.

Regeneration replaces the current unassigned areas with a new set of results. Your assigned areas don't change and are used as input for the new results. Regeneration never runs automatically – you always trigger it.

Delete Areas

To fix an assignment without redrawing the area:

  1. Select the assigned area.
  2. Select Unlink.

The area stays on the sheet but is no longer tied to a location.

Exit AI Mode

To exit AI mode, click Exit AI area mode at the bottom of the screen.

When you exit AI mode, only assigned areas show on the sheet. Unassigned areas are saved and hidden until you return.

When you re-enter AI mode, your latest results are restored so you can pick up where you left off.
