Windows Installer Error 1603

Issue

An unknown error condition on your computer has caused a problem for the installer. There are several conditions that can generate this error message. The following are the more common reasons:

• Not enough space for temporary files.
• Windows installer service is not running.

Solution

Try the following solutions and retry the installation:

Empty temporary folders:

1. On Windows, click Start > Run.
2. In Open, type %temp% and click OK.

   The contents of temp folder is displayed.

3. Select all files by pressing Ctrl+A, and press the Delete key.
4. Click OK, if a confirmation message appears.

Verify that the Windows Installer Service is running:

1. On Windows, click Start > Run .
2. In Open, type services.msc and click OK.
3. In the Services (Local) list, right-click Windows Installer and click Properties.
4. Inspect the Start Up Type box. If it is set to Disable:
   1. From the Start Up Type drop-down list, select Manual.
   2. In the Service Status section, click Start.
