Introducing Structural Analysis
- There are two analysis model types that can provide for a variety of structural solutions ranging from simple line beams and portal frames to complex three dimensional shell finite element structures.
- Line Beam - a line beam is useful for global and preliminary analysis. No axial, torsion or out-of-plane effects are considered, so this type is not appropriate for curved or highly skewed structures.
- Refined Analysis - advanced framework, grillage and finite element analysis.
- The structure geometry is defined graphically using 'real' objects such as setting out lines, roadways etc. instead of 'imaginary' objects such as nodes and elements.
- Complex geometry can be exported to and imported from Autodesk® AutoCAD with the DXF interface.
- Structural components can be defined using Design Sections and Design Beams so that complex properties are automatically calculated and assigned.
- Optimum vehicle load patterns can be generated to AASHTO LRFD 7 and AASHTO 17th Edition.
- Analysis results are easily used by the Design Beams for code checking.
- There are a number of advanced analysis features, such as:
- Virtual members containing beam/shell elements with composite results.
- Reinforcements moment calculations for slabs (Wood/Armer and Denton/Burgoyne methods).
- Lift off supports and tension/compression only members (non-linear analysis).
- Application of prestressing tendons with complex profiles which provides corresponding load effects, taking into account all losses in prestress.
- Staged construction.
- All results can be displayed graphically and in a tabular form (which can be printed).
- Tabular results can be exported directly to a spreadsheet.
- A project can contain (only) one Refined Analysis model and any number of Line Beam models. For example, a refined model could be defined for the detailed effects, and a line beam model for the inner beam line and another line beam model for the outer beam line, used for conceptual analysis, or to obtain temperature and shrinkage analysis effects.
