What is meant by Bring you own Subscription (BYOS) and how does it work for customers of BIM Collaborate Pro (previously known as BIM 360 Design) and Autodesk Docs (included in AEC Collection) subscriptions?

“Bring Your Own Subscription” or BYOS is a policy that defines access to certain Autodesk modules and services.

With some exceptions, the BYOS policy allows subscribers of BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs to: (a) invite other third-party subscribers of BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs (internal or external to the company) to join your projects without having to assign one of your own subscriptions; and (b) to access Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, Collaboration for Plant 3D, Design Collaboration, the BIM 360 Document Management module, and/or Model Coordination on projects you have been invited to on the BIM 360 and/or the Autodesk Construction Cloud platforms.

Details regarding how BYOS applies for subscribers of BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs are provided below.

As a BIM Collaborate Pro (previously BIM 360 Design) subscriber:

• You can access Revit Cloud Worksharing in Revit, Collaboration for Civil 3D, Collaboration for Plant 3D, and Design Collaboration in any BIM 360 project you have been invited to:
  • Regardless of the platform that the project is hosted on, BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Regardless of the individual or business entity that owns the account that hosts the project.
  • Regardless of which individual or business entity has purchased the subscription to BIM Collaborate Pro (subject to conformance with the “Authorized User” definition and other conditions in the Autodesk Terms of Use).
  • Regardless of the user limit in the BIM 360 account*.
  • Regardless of the location of the data center on which the project is hosted (US, Europe, or Australia)**.
  • As long as the Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, and Collaboration for Plant 3D entitlements have been assigned appropriately in Autodesk Accounts.
  • As long as you have been granted access to these services in the desired project.
• You can access Model Coordination on any project hosted on Autodesk Construction Cloud that you have been invited to:
  • Regardless of the individual or business entity that owns the account that hosts the project.
  • Regardless of which individual or business entity has purchased the subscription to Autodesk Construction Cloud (subject to conformance with the “Authorized User” definition and other conditions in the Autodesk Terms of Use).
  • Only for projects hosted on the US server.
  • As long as you have been granted access to these services in the desired project.
• You can access the BIM 360 Document Management module in any BIM 360 project you are invited to regardless of the user limit in the BIM 360 account*.
• You can access the BIM 360 Model Coordination module as long as the project host has enough seats of BIM 360 Model Coordination to cover your usage.

As an Autodesk Docs user:

• You can only access Autodesk Docs on a project hosted in the Autodesk Construction Cloud platform that you have been invited to, with the same guidelines and notes as above for a BIM Collaborate Pro subscriber.
• Access to Design Collaboration or Model Coordination in Autodesk Construction Cloud projects requires a subscription to BIM Collaborate or BIM Collaborate Pro.
• You can access the BIM 360 Document Management module in any BIM 360 project you are invited to regardless of the user limit in the BIM 360 account*.
• You cannot access Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, or Collaboration for Plant 3D, as they are not included in Autodesk Docs.
• You cannot access the BIM 360 Design Collaboration or BIM 360 Model Coordination modules unless the project host has enough seats of those modules to cover your usage.

How does this work?

Our offerings — BIM Collaborate Pro and Autodesk Docs — permit you, the host, to invite team members with valid subscriptions from other companies or accounts to your projects, so that you can collaborate with them on BIM 360 and/or Autodesk Construction Cloud projects.

When you invite team members from other companies or accounts to your project, your total allowed subscription pool will be the sum of your subscriptions and the subscriptions of the invited parties. As the host, you are responsible for ensuring that (a) you have enough licenses to cover all users from your company and (b) you or your invited parties have valid subscriptions for all invited team members. However, the seat limit displayed in the BIM 360 Account Admin module will not display the number of subscriptions owned by external users, only the number of subscriptions owned by the project host.

Access to the BIM 360 Document Management, Design Collaboration, and Model Coordination modules is given by a project administrator.

• Invited users who have subscriptions to BIM Collaborate Pro or Autodesk Docs can access the BIM 360 Document Management module in any project to which they have been invited and granted access.
• Invited users who have subscriptions to BIM Collaborate Pro can access Design Collaboration and Model Coordination in Autodesk Construction Cloud projects that they have been invited and granted access to.
• For BIM 360 Model Coordination module access in BIM 360 projects, the host needs to have enough seats of BIM 360 Model Coordination to cover everyone using that module.
• If an invited user does NOT have the necessary subscription, the administrator can assign one of their own subscriptions to the user to grant access. This will consume a subscription in the administrator’s available pool. Invited users also have the option to purchase a subscription, or, for an Autodesk Construction Cloud project, start a free 30-day trial.

Access to Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, and Collaboration for Plant 3D must be given in Autodesk Accounts.

• This subscription can come from their own subscription to BIM Collaborate Pro, or can be assigned by an administrator in compliance with the limitations in the “Authorized User" definition in the Autodesk Terms of Use. This allocation will consume a subscription to BIM Collaborate Pro for that contract.

Example Scenarios

• Company A has 25 licenses of BIM Collaborate Pro and all are used by company A employees.
• Company B has 25 licenses of BIM Collaborate Pro and all are used by company B employees.
• Company C does not have licenses to BIM Collaborate Pro.
• Company D has 25 licenses of Autodesk Docs and all are used by company D employees.

Scenario 1

Company A invites five users of Company B to join Company A’s BIM 360 project. Does Company A need to purchase additional licenses to BIM Collaborate Pro for Company B?

• No. Since Company B users already have their own BIM Collaborate Pro licenses and entitlements to Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, and Collaboration to Plant 3D assigned in Autodesk Accounts, they can join the project and have access to the project without the need for Company A to purchase any additional licenses.
  • Company A will see a permitted over allocation of BIM 360 Document Management seats.

Scenario 2

Company A invites five users of Company C to join Company A’s BIM 360 project. If Company A wants Company C to have Revit Cloud Worksharing and/or Collaboration for Civil 3D and/or Collaboration for Plant 3D access in Company A’s project, is there a need to purchase additional licenses for Company C?

• Yes. Since Company C does not have subscriptions to BIM Collaborate Pro, additional licenses are required for Company C to have Revit Cloud Worksharing, Collaboration for Civil 3D, and Collaboration for Plant 3D access. These additional BIM Collaborate Pro subscriptions can be purchased by either Company A or Company C.

Scenario 3

What if Company B invites five users of Company D to their project and wants them to only have access to the BIM 360 Document Management module. Does Company B have to purchase additional licenses of BIM Collaborate Pro?

• No, since Autodesk Docs supports BYOS for the Document Management module, Company D can use their Autodesk Docs subscriptions on Company C’s project.
