Block Libraries, Recent Blocks, and Favorite Blocks

Block libraries and recent blocks provide a convenient way to access the same blocks across web and desktop. Use a supported cloud storage provider (Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Drive, Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive) to access your recent blocks and block libraries.

The Recent tab displays a list of block definitions recently inserted or created in AutoCAD desktop drawings. The Libraries tab displays a list of block definitions from a single, specified drawing or a folder.

Setting up block libraries and recent blocks

Using block libraries, recent blocks on the AutoCAD web app requires some minimal setup on desktop AutoCAD. Once you've completed the set up, block libraries and recent blocks will be available whenever you use the AutoCAD web app, or whenever you're signed in to desktop AutoCAD.

To set up libraries:

  1. Open desktop AutoCAD
  2. In AutoCAD, open the Blocks palette
  3. Click the Libraries tab
  4. Specify a path. A path can be a folder or a drawing. Make sure the source of path is a supported cloud storage provider (Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive). Once a path is specified, all the drawings within this drawing or folder will be accessible as blocks across AutoCAD desktop and web. The ten most recent libraries you indicate will be accessible in the libraries drop-down list.

To set up recent blocks:

  1. Open desktop AutoCAD
  2. In AutoCAD, open the Options dialog
  3. In the Files tab, go to Blocks Sync Folder Location and specify a new folder for recent and favorite blocks. Make sure the folder is located within a supported cloud storage provider (Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive).

Once a path is specified, your recent blocks will be stored in that location.

To set up favorite blocks:

  1. Open desktop AutoCAD
  2. In AutoCAD, open the Options dialog
  3. In the Files tab, go to Blocks Sync Folder Location and specify a new folder for recent and favorite blocks. Make sure the folder is located within a supported cloud storage provider (Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft OneDrive).
