Third-party Apps and Custom Integrations

Account administrators can add third-party apps and custom integrations to BIM 360 accounts to extend the capabilities of the product.

Note: If you are on an enterprise plan and the Apps or Custom Integration features are not enabled, send an email to bim360appsactivations@autodesk.com to request access. You can also contact support for further help and information.

Apps

A selection of default third-party apps are available in BIM 360. Custom integrations require configuration.

Manage Apps

BIM 360 account administrators can add, open, suspend, and delete apps, and suggest additional integrations.

  1. In Account Admin, click the Apps tab.

  2. Click My Apps in the left panel. Tip: The Featured Apps option in the left panel displays a selection of suggested apps that may be useful for your account.

To add, open, suspend, and remove apps, click the relevant app then:

  1. Add: Click Add to BIM 360 Authorize.
  2. Open: Click Open and follow the instructions indicated in the Usage tab for authorizing the app with your BIM 360 account. You may be prompted to enter your sign in credentials and/or other information.
  3. Suspend: Click Suspend to deactivate the app. The app is not removed from your account.
  4. Activate: Click Activate to reactivate a suspended app.
  5. Remove: Click Remove App to remove the app from your account. To reconnect a deleted app, repeat the Add step above.

Suggest an Integration

You can suggest an integration if you have an idea for an app that isn't included. To do so:

  1. In Account Admin, click the Apps tab.

  2. Click Featured Apps in the left panel.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the apps list.

  4. Click Suggest an Integration.

  5. Complete the form and click Submit. Your suggestion is sent to the BIM 360 Apps & Integrations team.

Custom Integrations

Custom integrations can be added from Autodesk's Forge platform to a BIM 360 account using the Custom Integrations feature. This feature can be found in the Account Admin module on the Settings tab.

Important: The Custom Integrations feature is available to BIM 360 enterprise accounts and must be activated. You can set up an integration yourself or invite a developer to do it for you. You need a Forge client ID.

You can also allow developers to connect data from Document Management to the rest of your construction ecosystem. As an account administrator, you specify whether a developer has access to Account Admin, Document Management, or both.

For more information about Autodesk's Forge Platform and custom integrations, see the Forge website.

Set Up Custom Integrations

You can set up custom integrations as an account administrator or give access and instructions to your developer to complete the integration.

  1. In Account Admin, click the Settings tab.

  2. From the Custom Integrations tab, click Add Custom Integration. Note: If you are on an enterprise plan and the Apps or Custom Integration features are not enabled, send an email to bim360appsactivations@autodesk.com to request access. You can also contact support for further help and information.

  3. In the Add Custom Integration dialog box, select BIM 360 Account Administration and / or Document Management and click Next.

  4. Select I'm The Developer and click Next.

  5. Copy and save the BIM 360 Account ID and enable the checkbox beside it to confirm you've saved the ID. Note: You will need this unique account ID while using the BIM 360 API with your app.

  6. Enter the Forge client ID, app name, and description.

  7. You can also upload an app logo.

  8. Review your information and click Save. You will receive a message saying your app is connected to your BIM 360 account.

Invite a Developer to Set Up a Custom Integration

  1. Follow steps 1-3 in the Set Up Custom Integrations section above.

  2. Select Invite A Developer and enter the developer's email ID. Note: If the developer is already in your member directory, the information appears as you type. If the developer is not in your member directory, enter their email address.

  3. Click Send. The developer will receive a BIM 360 invitation email.

  4. Notify your developer to accept the invitation. The developer can then access the BIM 360 API and connect your app or integration.

  5. Ask the developer to complete the app details and submit them for your approval. Once approved, the app goes live.

Set Up a Custom Integration as a Developer

Pass these instructions to your developer to complete integration.

Note: When you add a custom third-party integration to an account, the integrated application will have read and write access to either all of the account's project data (2-legged authentication) or all of the user's data (3-legged authentication). We recommend using 3-legged authentication if possible. For details about token-based authentication and access, see the Forge developer documentation.
  1. In your BIM 360 email invitation, click Get Started and sign in using your Autodesk ID.

  2. Follow steps 2-8 in Set up Custom Integrations above.

  3. Ask your BIM 360 account administrator to approve the app. Once approved, you will receive a message saying your app is connected to your BIM 360 account. Tip: Add available default apps to your account by clicking the Add to BIM 360 button rather than requiring a custom integration set up.

Approve, Suspend, and Delete Custom Integrations

BIM 360 account administrators can approve, suspend, and delete integrations.

  1. In Account Admin, click the Settings tab.

  2. From the Custom Integrations tab, locate the app and click Details.

  3. Click Approve.

  4. To change access levels, use the Access checkboxes.

  5. To suspend an app, select App Details then select Suspend from the status drop-down list. The app is temporarily suspended. To reactivate the app, click the drop-down and change the status to Active.

  6. To delete an app, select App Details Delete. Note: To reconnect a deleted app, follow the Add steps in the Manage Apps section above.
