Create RFIs in Document Management

There are two types of RFIs: those associated with a specific document or model, and those that encompass the project as a whole but aren't associated with a specific document or model. RFIs associated with specific documents or models are created in the Document Management module. Learn how to control your RFI email notifications.

Important: To create RFIs not associated with a specific document or model or to view, edit, filter, sort, comment, and export an RFI list, refer to the RFIs section of the help, which discuss these capabilities in the Project Management module.

Create an RFI Associated with a Document or Model

Note: Only a user with the Creator workflow role can create a new RFI and submit it. For more details, see RFI Permissions. In addition, note that only the user who opened the RFI (Manager workflow role) can close an RFI.
  1. Open a 2D document or 3D model and select RFIs.

  2. In the RFI panel, click Create RFI. An RFI marker appears.

  3. Click a location in the sheet or model where you want to place the RFI push pin. If needed, drag the push pin to the desired location.

  4. When first created, RFI status is set by default to Draft. When ready to assign the RFI, set it to Open. You can keep an RFI in Draft mode or set it to Open before saving it.

Note: Only the creator and project administrator can view RFIs in the Draft mode.
  5. Enter a title.

  6. You can also add a question, suggested answer, and location.

  7. For Assigned To, the assignee is determined by the RFI workflow ("Manager" workflow role) as defined in Project Admin. Users in the company associated with the Manager workflow role will receive an email notification with a link to the RFI.

  8. Specify a due date.

  9. For co-reviewers, select project members to include on the RFI. The list of members to choose from is based on the workflow settings.

  10. Select members to include on a distribution list.

  11. Click Create to save.
