Download your Generated Character

Download your generated characters and animate them in Autodesk software such as 3ds Max, Maya, Maya LT, or MotionBuilder, or in a game engine, such as Unity.

You can preview your generated character, before downloading it. See Edit your Generated Character for information about previewing.
Important: Access to Character Generator is limited to subscribers of Autodesk Maya, Maya LT, 3ds Max, MotionBuilder, and Mudbox, as well as the Autodesk Media & Entertainment Collection. Standalone subscriptions of Autodesk Character Generator are no longer available for purchase. For more information, see Changes to Character Generator.
  1. Go to the Generated Characters page.

    The thumbnails of all the characters you generated are displayed.

    The number displayed in the green box ( ) next to the Generated Characters indicates the number of characters that are yet to be downloaded.

    The thumbnails highlighted in green identify the characters that have not yet been downloaded. In this example, four characters are yet to be downloaded ( ).

  2. To download a character, click the Download icon ( ).

    A green checkmark () displays at the top-right of the thumbnail of the character you downloaded.

    Your customized 3D rigged character is saved in a compressed file by default on your system under your username. The contents of the compressed file depend on the generate options you selected: for example, if you selected the Generic .fbx Generate option, one or multiple Poly Resolutions, all of the Textures options, and a Facial Expressions option, the compressed file includes the following file:
    • *.fbx file
    If you selected the Maya (.mb) Generate option, the Crowd, Low, Medium, and High Poly Resolutions, the Clothes, Specular map, and Normal map Textures, and a Facial Expressions option, the compressed file includes the following files:
    • *.mb file
    • clothes texture *_color.jpg file
    • normal map texture *_crowd_nm.jpg file for the Crowd Poly Resolutions
    • normal map texture *_low_nm.jpg file for the Low Poly Resolutions
    • normal map texture *_mid_nm.jpg file for the Medium Poly Resolutions
    • normal map texture *_high_nm.jpg file for the High Poly Resolutions
    • specular map texture *_spec.jpg file
    If you selected the 3ds Max .fbx Generate option, the Crowd, Low, Medium, and High Poly Resolutions, the Clothes, Specular map, and Normal map Textures, and a Facial Expressions option, the compressed file includes the following files:
    • *_3dsMax.fbx file
    • the CharacterGenerator_FbxToBiped.ms file
    • the CharacterGenerator_FbxToBiped_Readme.txt file
    If you selected the Unity .fbx Generate option, the Crowd, Low, Medium, and High Poly Resolutions, the Clothes, Specular map, and Normal map Textures, and a Facial Expressions option, the compressed file includes the following file:
    • *_Unity.fbx file
    If you selected all four Generate options, all four Poly Resolutions options, all three Textures options, and a Facial Expressions option, the compressed file includes the following files:
    • *.fbx file
    • *.mb file
    • *_3dsMax.fbx file
    • ChacterGenerator_FbxToBiped.ms file
    • CharacterGenerator_FbxToBiped_Readme.txt file
