You can now privately share folders with individual people, instead of being forced to share your whole Drive, or copy a link that publicly shares your file.
Just click the "Share" button on any top-level folder in your Drive.
You can add users to a folder by clicking the "Share" button, then selecting what permissions level they should have:
You can control what other people can (and can't) do in your shared folders.
When you share a folder, choose one of these permission levels:
You can also modify the role of someone who you've already added to this folder. Click the role next to their name (see image above), then choose a new one:
Private Folder Sharing is also supported in the Desktop Connector application for Windows. Learn More.
We are adding a new sharing feature and removing an old one.
If you use the legacy Drive Sharing feature, here's what will happen after Private Folder Sharing is available:
If you don't use the legacy Drive Sharing feature, you don't need to do anything. This new sharing feature will simply appear in your Drive!
If you do use Drive sharing:
Verify: who has shared with you?
Open the "Shared with Me" tab:
Decide: do you still need to see/edit the content of these Drives? If yes:
See who can access your Drive:
Click the "Info" icon on the right side of your Drive.
In the popup menu, click the list of collaborators.
If you only see yourself (or if you can't see this list at all), you are not sharing your Drive.
Anyone else in this list is a "collaborator" -- someone who can access your Drive.
Please note these users in a document or an email.
For each of these users: share your folders with them, using the new sharing feature.
But now you can control which folders they see, and what they can do!
