Device adapters are hosted by device channels: processes for cloud data processing.
Device channels are connected to Fusion Connect services and controlled via Fusion Connect’s service user interface, specifically using the Data Gateways functionality. Depending on the device communication protocol used, a device adapter can require one or more configuration settings be specified, such as the port on which it will listen for messages or the frequency with which it will poll an API.
A data gateway allows a service administrator to select a device type (and therefore a cloud adapter) and define all these settings. Additionally, a data gateway contains information about the concrete devices that can communicate with the service through the adapter. Fusion Connect service administrators can then dynamically assign a data gateway to a channel, at which point the channel will begin using the adapter to communicate with devices.
