Specify Default Insertion Point

Specifying the correct location for the default insertion point is a requirement for all items and sub assemblies. If the default insertion point is not configured or applied correctly, the item or sub assembly insertion point may not match the insertion point of the cursor location in the model as expected. This can produce undesired results. It is important to plan the precise insertion point location so that items, including sub assemblies, are inserted as expected when used for design or coordination purposes within a building information model.

  1. To configure an insertion point appropriately for a sub assembly, right-click on the sub assembly and select Edit.
Note: This can either be executed in the Item folder structure or within the Service Template if the sub assembly has been applied to a service template.

The Edit Sub Assembly dialog displays.

  2. Click the 3D View tab.

To locate the required default insertion point, the basic principle is to select and move the item to specify a co-ordinate location (@ X=0 Y=0 Z=0).

For this example shown below (Transfer Grille Box Inc Plenum Box Top Entry), the default insertion can be located on the face node of the Transfer Grille item.

  3. Execute the Move command, select the Face Node on the item, and then type @0,0,0.

This moves the selected item(s) to the appropriate relative coordinate location.

  4. To test the insertion of the sub assembly, apply the sub assembly to the appropriate Service Template accordingly, and then apply the sub assembly within the model.
