With CADmep, you can create spool drawings. You can select a drawing template, import the required duct or pipework system in sections, providing detailed item and dimension information.
You can also add dimensions to spool drawings.
To create a spool drawing:
- Open the required CADmep drawing.
- Do one of the following to display the Define & Create Spool(s) dialog:
- At the command line, type SPOOLDWG and then press Enter.
- In the CADmep toolbar, click the Define/Create Spool(s) button on the CADmep Spool Tools flyout menu.
Note: The CADmep Spool Tools flyout menu also contains these commands: Batch Spool Create

Add Spool Dim (SPOOLDIM)
.
- Enter a Spool Name.
- Click the Path button to specify a location to save the spool drawing.
- Click Template to choose a drawing template to use with the spool drawing (*.dwt).
- Store Spool Name to:
- None: Default
- Pallet: Stores the Spool Name to the Items Pallet field.
- Custom Data: Stores the Spool Name to the Custom Data field.
- Check the Change Color option to enable the following options:
- Color: Select the color of the duct/pipework section.
- Color Range: Sets the AutoCAD Colors in use.
- Bump Color: Click to increment the color selection.
- In the Set View drop-down, specify a view for the spool drawing.
- Optionally, click the Set Status option if you want to specify the Item Statuses for the spooled drawing.
- Click the Report option to select a stored Item Report or click the Setup button to configure new reports.
- In the Tags section, specify the following options:
- Display: Option to display Item Numbers tags.
- Prompt For Positions: Prompts the position of Item numbers as soon as the model is spooled.
- Create in Layout Tab: If not checked, the spooled model remains in model space.
- Create Spool on OK: Check to create the spool drawing. Leave unchecked if you wish to change settings and update an existing spool.
- Once the above options have been selected, click OK.
- Select the required duct/pipework section.
Note: When using the Report option, the prompt for report placement is relative to the bottom left corner of the report.
