Create a rigid group of components

Learn how to use the Rigid Group command to lock the relative position of a set of selected components in a design in Fusion.

1. On the Design toolbar, select Assemble > Rigid Group .

   The Rigid Group dialog displays.

2. In the canvas or the Browser, select two or more components.

3. Optional: Check Include Child Components to include all of the child components nested within the components you select.

4. Click OK.

The components are fixed in their positions relative to each other. A Rigid Group feature displays in the Timeline. If you move or apply a joint to one of the components, all of them move together in the canvas.

Edit a Rigid Group

1. In the Timeline, right-click the Rigid Group feature.

2. Select Edit Rigid Group.

   The Edit Rigid Group dialog displays.

3. Add or remove components from the selection set.

4. Click OK.

The components you selected selected are added to the Rigid Group. The components you deselected are removed from the Rigid Group.

Tips

• Use Rigid Group after you insert components or subassemblies into a design, when all of the components or subassemblies should remain in fixed positions relative to each other.
• Use Rigid Group for three or more components if there is no relative motion between them, instead of creating a rigid joint between each pair. This helps reduce the number of features to compute in the Timeline.
• Check Include Child Components to keep subassemblies intact.
• Create a Rigid Group for each instance of a subassembly, because each instance is independently flexible by default.
• Edit the Rigid Group feature in the Timeline to add or remove components.
• Add Joints between components in Rigid Groups to define motion between subassemblies, and the entire group moves together.
