The Ground To Parent tool lets you define an inherent rigid relationship between a child component and its parent component so they move together in Fusion.
Use this tool when you want the child and parent components to move together in an assembly.
These component types are automatically grounded to their parent component when you create them:
These component types can be ground to parent:
These component types cannot be ground to parent:
If it is grounded to parent, the first component you select when you create a joint is automatically ungrounded from parent. The second component you select maintains its ground to parent status.
If a child component has an existing assembly relationship and you ground it to its parent component, the child component will move back to its initial position and any existing assembly features will need to be resolved. Ground To Parent will override the following assembly relationships:
These two tools can seem similar but they have several key differences. Ground To Parent defines an inherent fixed relationship (similar to a rigid joint) between parent and child components while Pin fixes the component in place in the design itself.
When you pin a component:
When you ground a child component to its parent:
When you create a Manufacturing Model that contains components that have been ground to parent, any ground to parent relationships will be overridden. This lets you arrange the components for manufacturing. You can use Ground To Parent on any new components you create in the manufacturing model.
