Add the active design to an assembly

Learn how to use Add to assembly tool to insert the active design into a new or existing assembly or hybrid design as an external component in Fusion.

1. Open a design that you want to insert into an assembly or hybrid design.

2. In the Design workspace, locate the Add to Assembly tool:

   • In a Part design, select Assemble > Add To Assembly .
   • In an Assembly or Hybrid design, select Assemble > Add To Assembly .

3. If the design is not saved, a dialog displays. Click Save and Insert. The New or existing assembly dialog displays.

4. Select a destination:

   • New Assembly: Creates a new assembly design and automatically inserts the active design.
   • Existing Assembly: Select an Assembly or Hybrid design to insert the active design into, then click Insert.

   The destination design opens and the Initial Position dialog displays.

5. Use the manipulator handles or enter specific values to position the external component.

6. Click OK.

The design is now inserted as an external component in the selected assembly or hybrid design.
