Automation preferences reference
Review the Automation Preferences available in the Drawing workspace in Fusion.
Access the Automation Preferences dialog
Click the Workspace menu and select Drawing > From Design or From Animaton.
The Create Drawing dialog displays.
In the Create Drawing dialog, select the Automatic Drawing Type, then click Automation Preferences

Preference scope
Preferences apply at different levels. The scope you select determines which design entities receive sheets and automation behavior.
Global
Settings that apply across all automation preferences and sheets.
Main Assembly
Preferences that apply to the top-level assembly, including all sub-assemblies and components.
Sub-Assembly
Preferences that apply to the current sub-assembly and its components.
Animation
Preferences that apply to the drawing created from a storyboard in the Animation workspace.
Component
Preferences that apply to a single component.
Folded Model
Preferences that apply to the folded sheet metal model view.
Flat Pattern
Preferences that apply to the flat pattern view.
Create Sheet
Creates sheets for the selected design entities.
- Main Assembly: Creates a sheet for the top-level assembly that includes all sub-assemblies and components.
- Sub-Assembly: Creates a sheet for a sub-assembly and its components.
- Animation: Creates a sheet for the exploded view from a storyboard created in the Animation workspace.
- Component: Creates a sheet for individual components.
- Folded Model: Creates a sheet for the folded model view.
- Flat Pattern: Creates a sheet for the flat pattern view.
Sheet with Single Iso View
Displays a single isometric view on the sheet.
- Include Parts List: Adds a detailed parts list to the sheet, listing all components in the assembly.
- Parts List Location: Places the parts list in a corner of the sheet.
- Top-Left Corner
- Top-Right Corner
- Bottom-Right Corner
- Bottom-Left Corner
Sheet with Orthogonal Views
Displays optimized orthogonal views on the sheet.
- Include Parts List: Adds a detailed parts list to the sheet, listing all components in the assembly.
- Parts List Location: Places the parts list in a corner of the sheet.
- Top-Left Corner
- Top-Right Corner
- Bottom-Right Corner
- Bottom-Left Corner
Folded Model options
- Add Folded Model Isometric View: Adds an isometric view of your folded model.
- Include Bend Table: Adds a bend table with information about each sheet metal bend in a flat pattern reference.
- Bend Table Location: Specifies the location of the bend table on the sheet.
- Top-Left Corner
- Top-Right Corner
- Bottom-Right Corner
- Bottom-Left Corner
Dimensions
Controls the automatic dimensioning applied to created sheets.
Auto Dimensions
Automatically adds various types of dimensions to a sheet.
Dimension Strategy
Select how dimensions are applied.
- Auto-Select: Automatically selects the best dimension strategy.
- Overall: Adds the overall dimensions of the object.
- Baseline: Adds multiple linear dimensions that measure distance from a datum point.
- Symmetric: Adds dimensions that symmetrically measure distances from the center line.
- Symmetric with Baseline: Adds dimensions with combined symmetric and baseline strategy.
- Ordinate: Adds dimensions measured in the X or Y direction, relative to an origin point.
- Symmetric with Ordinate: Adds dimensions with combined symmetric and ordinate strategy.
- Chain: Adds a series of linear dimensions that measure distance from the end of the previous dimension.
Hole Preferences
Controls how hole details are displayed in the drawing.
- Dimension: Displays hole detail as a diameter dimension.
- Hole and Thread Note: Displays hole specifications as a detailed note with hole and thread.
Drawing View
Controls default view settings such as style, tangent edge display, interference and thread edges, and automated annotation for center marks and center lines.
Style
Select the view style of drawing views created by automation.
- Shaded: Shows shaded faces with materials and lighting.
- Visible Edges: Shows visible outlines only.
- Shaded with Hidden Edges: Shows shaded faces with dashed hidden edges.
- Visible Edges and Hidden Edges: Shows outlines with dashed hidden edges.
Tangent Edges
Controls the display style for tangent edges.
- Off: Doesn't display tangent edges.
- Full Length: Displays all tangent edges as full lines.
- Shortened: Displays tangent edges as shortened/foreshortened lines.
Interference Edges
Displays edges where components intersect.
Thread Edges
Displays threads on threaded edges.
Bend Extends
Adds bend extends to help recognize full width bends.
Center Marks
Controls the hole types that receive automated center marks.
- Round Extrudes: Adds center marks to cylindrical extruded features.
- Round Cuts: Adds center marks to round cut features.
- Fillet: Adds center marks to filleted arcs where appropriate.
- Hole: Adds center marks to hole features.
Center Lines
Controls the hole types that receive automated center lines.
- Round Extrudes: Adds center lines through cylindrical extruded features.
- Round Cuts: Adds center lines through round cut features.
- Hole: Adds center lines through hole features.
Exclude Components
Controls which components will not receive a sheet during automatic sheet creation.
Omit Component…
Lets you type component names for which you don’t want a sheet to be created. Separate multiple entries with commas.
Detect and Omit Fasteners
Omits fasteners during the automatic drawing creation process.
Save changes
- Update Selected Template saves these preferences to the selected template for future drawings.
- Save as New Drawing Template creates a new template with these preferences.
- OK applies these preferences for this drawing creation only.
