Create cutting (slice) planes

Use cutting planes to view the interior of the model. The instructions vary slightly, depending on whether the study uses the Standard results viewer or the Online viewer

For studies using the Standard results viewer

  1. In the Results tab, select Inspect > Create Slice Plane slice plane icon to open the Slice Plane dialog.

  2. Select a surface to initially create the plane.

  3. Select a style:

    1. shaded icon Shaded shows a clear contour inside the model.
    2. mesh lines icon Mesh Lines displays the lines created by slicing through the elements. This is useful to diagnose if the analysis may require a tighter mesh.
    3. vectors icon Vectors displays the direction of the result using arrows.
    4. clip icon Cliping hides the model on one side of the plane.
  4. If you selected vectors icon Vectors, change the display vector and the glyph size, where appropriate.

  5. To switch which side of the model is hidden, click flip clip icon Flip Clip .

  6. Change the angle and location of the plane using the grips, or by manual entry in the dialog box.

  7. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.

For studies using the Online results viewer

  1. In the Results tab, select Inspect > Create Cutting Plane slice plane icon to open the Slice Plane dialog.

  2. Select a surface to initially create the plane.

  3. Select a style:

    1. section icon Section view shows clear contours inside the model and on the section of the model not hidden by the plane.
    2. slice icon Slice view shows only the data on the plane.
  4. In Section view, to view the data on the other side of the plane, click flip clip icon Flip cut direction .

  5. Change the angle and offset of the plane using the grips on the plane, or by manual entry in the dialog box.

  6. Click OK to accept the changes and close the dialog.
