The problem with simulating an as-modeled heat sink is that the mesh or voxel resolution required for accurate maximum temperature prediction can be a costly enterprise, both in time and in tokens. To take advantage of heat sink idealization, model an extruded heat sink in which the fin direction and the gap between them are invariant, and the heat sink is aligned with the model coordinate system.

The simplification methodology accepts the heat sink assembly and produces a representation that consists of a single orientated part.
