Create a shape optimization symmetry plane

Use a Symmetry Plane is used to force the optimized geometry to be symmetrical about the specified plane.

  1. From the Setup tab, select symmetry plane icon (Shape Optimization > Symmetry Plane).

  2. Select a Reference surface on the geometry.

  3. Select a single face of the model on which to base one to three planes of symmetry.

  4. Enable one or more of the following three Active Plane options. Each active plane option produces a unique symmetry plane:

    • 1: This Active Plane is enabled by default. The associated symmetry plane is parallel to the selected face and passes through the centroid of the body.

    • 2: The associated symmetry plane is perpendicular to Active Plane 1 and passes through the centroid of the body.

    • 3: The associated symmetry plane is perpendicular to both Active Plane 1 and Active Plane 2, and it passes through the centroid of the body.

Note: You can enable one, two, or three active planes, but each plane must be based on the same face of the model. You cannot add a symmetry plane based on a different model face once a symmetry plane has already been defined.
  5. Click OK.
