Load Type | Units | Input entities | Inputs required |
---|---|---|---|
Force | N, dyne, lbforce, ounceforce, tonforce | Faces, Edges, or Vertices. (single or multiple) Note: When selecting more than one input, all entities must be of the same type. |
- Specify the force in the desired units. - For edges or vertices, the default Direction Type setting is Vectors (x,y,x). You must specify the X, Y, and Z force components. The software internally converts Force loads applied to faces to equivalent pressure loads. - To limit a force applied to a face to a smaller circular area within the perimeter of the face, click Limit Target and specify the Radius of the load zone. You can drag the load zone radius to size or specify it numerically. The Direction Type must be Angle or Vector for the Limit Target option to be available. Activate the Force Per Entity option to apply the specified magnitude to each entity. For example, if you select three faces and the magnitude is 100 N, the total applied force is 300 N (100 N * 3 faces). |
Pressure | Pa, MPa, psi, ksi, bar | Faces (single or multiple) |
Specify the pressure to apply to the face or faces, in the desired units. |
Moment | N*m, N*mm, lbforce*in, lbforce*ft | Faces (single or multiple) |
- Specify the moment load to apply to the selected face or faces. - The default direction of the moment axis is normal to the selected face, but you can specify any axis direction. Note: When you select several faces an unselected Moment Per Entity option appears to indicate that specified moment magnitude is distributed on a prorated basis among all the selected faces. If, for example, you select four faces of the same size and enter the magnitude of 400 lbforce-ft, you're applying the load of 100 lbforce-ft to each face. The total applied moment is 400 lbforce-ft (100 lbforce-ft * 4 faces). |
Bearing Load | N, dyne, lbforce, ounceforce, tonforce | Face (single) Note: The face must be cylindrical, and may be an outside face or an inside face (hole). It may be a full 360° cylindrical face or a partial one. |
Specify the load in the desired units, to apply to a cylindrical face. |
Remote Force | N, dyne, lbforce, ounceforce, tonforce | Faces (single or multiple) |
- Specify the force to apply to the selected face or faces. - The default direction of a remote force is Normal to the selected face. - Drag the manipulators or specify the X Distance, Y Distance, and Z Distance values to position the remote force. |
Hydrostatic Pressure | kg/m3, kg/cm3, ouncemass/in3, lbmass/in3, lbmass/ft3, slug/ft3 | Faces (single or multiple) |
- Specify the face or faces to which to apply the pressure. - Gravity must be enabled, since the direction of the gravity vector controls the direction in which pressure increases. The first time you apply a Hydrostatic Pressure load, gravity is enabled automatically. - Select one of the predefined fluids or choose Custom and specify the fluid density manually. - Choose a vertex on the model to indicate the elevation at the free surface of the fluid, where the pressure is zero. You can offset the surface elevation by dragging the manipulator arrow or by entering the Offset Distance. Be sure that your gravity vector is correctly defined. |
Remote Moment | N*m, N*mm, lbforce*in, lbforce*ft | Faces (single or multiple) |
- Specify the moment load to apply to the selected face or faces. - The default direction of the moment axis is normal to the selected face, but you can specify any axis direction. Note: When you select several faces the solver distributes the specified moment magnitude among those faces. If, for example, you select two faces of the same size and enter the magnitude of 200 lbforce-ft, a 100 lbforce-ft load is applied to each face, and the total applied moment is 200 lbforce-ft (100 lbforce-ft * 2 faces). |
